I added a flickr 'badge' to the page. It will show thumbnails of the most recent pictures that we upload to our Flickr account.

I reverted to the original page template due to problems getting comments to work correctly. I updated the title with some javascript from Spell with Flickr instead of html code. The code went from about 20 lines to 1 line using javascript. As a bonus, the letters now change with every reload. Click refresh! Pretty cool.

The Training Begins

Yesterday, after dinner, we decided to head to the Rec Center for the evening. While we were getting ready, I told Karri that I was going to run to the Korte Rec Center. The rec. center is about three miles from our house. She looked at me like I had gone mad. So we packed the kids up, put them in their car seats, and I set off to start my training. I ran to the end of our street, about 6 houses, and decided that was enough running for one day. I put up my thumb for a ride when Karri and the kids drove up. Thankfully they stopped! Lauren called me an old man. She also said I was silly for running in the street because I could get hit by a car. It's hard to argue with simple logic. So instead of running to the rec. I hydrated with a bottled water and enjoyed the ride. It was, of course, the safe thing to do.

When we arrived, Karri walked with Jessalyn, and Lauren and I headed straight for the pool. Once Karri and Jessalyn came into the water, I took Jessalyn and walked against the current in the Lazy River for about 15 minutes. It seems to be a good, low impact, aerobic activity. Just what I need as I get started.

Today I weighed 196 pounds. I fluctuate between 190 and 199. I have yet to hit 200. Hopefully I will be able to stay below 200. My gutters need to be cleaned and my ladder has a 200 pound weight limit!

Getting in shape!

I've decided to start working on getting in shape. This will require
quite a bit of determination on my part to change my couch potato
habits. Nevertheless, it must be done. I will start with the ambitious
goal to run the Chicago Marathon on October 22, 2006. I will be blogging
my progress toward this goal on a regular basis through this blog.

I have added a link to our Flickr photo blog. Right now the pictures are still the ones that were there after Jessalyn was born. New pictures are coming soon!

The new About Us title comes from Spell with Flickr

All you have to do is enter your text in the form. The letter pictures are pulled from Flickr photo blogs. Clicking on the letter pictures at Spell with Flickr will change to another picture of the letter. The html code can then be copied and pasted into another webpage. It doesn't do spaces, by design?, so all of the letters are run together.

Severe Thunderstorms!

It's 11:10 pm. The sirens went off shortly after Lauren went to bed tonight. We are now sitting in the basement waiting for the big storm to hit!

Boom!

gnome-blog

Test of gnome-blog applet.

I recently switched from Fedora to Ubuntu. Ubuntu comes with Gnome 2.10. Gnome is a straight forward easy to use desktop environment. Not a lot of configuration options are available. However, it 'just works'. You can find a screenshot here. You will see this post being composed and a window browsing our Charter FTP space that hosts this website. Notice the icon in the upper left of the screenshot that says Charter. When I click on it I am able to browse the FTP site as if I were browsing my own harddrive. Files can be dragged and dropped to and from the webspace. No special ftp software is required. It can't get any easier than this.

Apple - Mac mini

I want my Mac mini! To bad it doesn't come with a DVD burner. You can always buy an external DVD burner, but they generally cost more. It will be interesting to see what options become available in the future. Maybe a mighty Mac mini!
